Stuart McDonald MP for Cumbernauld, Kilsyth & Kirkintilloch East, and Jamie Hepburn MSP for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth have today lent their support to Royal Mail’s Child Rescue Alerts campaign.
Royal Mail has a partnership with the charity Missing People, which enables “high risk” alerts, such as Child Rescue Alerts to be sent to the handheld scanners of Royal Mail postmen and women. Royal Mail have also launched a “Freepost Missing People” postal address which enables missing people to send a message to their loved ones without the possibility of being found if that is their wish. The Child Rescue Alert’s are issued with a child is known to have been abducted or when their life is believed to be at immediate risk. An expert helpline team are trained to issue an alert 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Individuals can register to receive the Child Rescue Alerts by texting the word “HERO” and their postcode to 85080 or via: www.childrescuealert.org.uk Mr McDonald said : “I have signed up to Child Rescue Alerts and I would also encourage anyone who is missing or if you know someone who is missing to contact the charity Missing People, you can write to FREEPOST Missing People, call or text for free on 116000, or email 116000@missingpeople.org.uk.” “Missing People can be contacted 24 hours a day 7 days per week and all contact is strictly confidential, and can offer support to anyone is missing or assist is getting a message to loved ones without disclosing your location and indeed can offer support the loved ones of missing people.” Mr Hepburn added: “A missing child is every parents worst nightmare and Child Rescue Alerts aim to have the maximum amount of people looking for a child or any high risk missing person as soon as possible. “It’s easy to sign up to Child Rescue Alerts just text the word “HERO” and your postcode to 85080, I’ve signed up for Child Rescue Alerts and I would encourage everyone in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth to do so.”
