Happy 70th birthday to our NHS and thanks to all the staff that continue to provide an extraordinary service. We are fortunate to benefit from a system that provides Universal Health Coverage. This afternoon I hope to take part in a debate on the progress being made in ensuring all people can benefit from similar systems by 2030 - currently half the world does not.
Earlier in the week I was pleased to attend a reception in Parliament held by Macmillan to reflect on the excellent work that the NHS does and celebrate the successful partnership between it and Macmillan Cancer Care. It was a good opportunity to mark the 70th birthday of the NHS and recognise how Macmillan has supported, and continues to support the NHS, and discuss future challenges it may face.
